Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Flight Operations Co-Ordinator supports the Operations managers to ensure all activities undertaken by Wilderness Air is conducted in accordance with the Flight Operations Manual in terms of the applicable requirements prescribed by the Civil Aviation Authority and Wilderness Air Service license. Also responsible for all flight planning, flight dispatch and flight following, to ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective scheduling of Wilderness Air aircrafts and clients.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the effective control of Flight Operations which includes, but not limited to, the safe, legal, efficient and correct conduct of all flights
  • Ensuring that all flights conducted by or on behalf of Wilderness Air are correctly approved, authorised and released in accordance with the provisions of the Civil Aviation Regulations, Flight Operations Manual and Wilderness Safaris insurance policies.
  • Maintaining a liaison mechanism with the Flight Operations Manager, Chief Pilot, Ground Operations Manager, Maintenance Manager, Flight and Ground Training Manager, Safety Manager and Quality Manager for any matters affecting the correct release, authorisation and conduct of Wilderness Air flights.
  • Effective rostering of all scheduling staff
  • Maintains the approved flight planning programme Schedwin and liaise with the developer as soon as issues are raised
  • Ensure that the final copy of the schedule is sent to all the relevant parties by 16h00
  • Oversee all flight logistical planning e.g. fuel requirements, cash advances, accommodation, road transport, catering, over-flight clearances, landing permissions, arrival/departure slots, passenger support, baggage handling, aircrew visas, customs and immigration procedures, etc.
  • Ensure that all particulars pertaining to a flight are handed to the Pilot-in-Command of the aircraft in a written/printed format to prevent misunderstanding (i.e. pilot briefing)
  • Ensure that the Operations manager has been notified verbally and follow up with an email of changes, problems with guests, pilots and a/c on the daily schedule throughout the day
  • Liaise with the Safety Manager on operational safety matters having a bearing on the air service being operated
  • Liaise with the Quality Assurance Manager on compliance matters having a bearing on the air service being operated.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Matric, IGCSE or Higher
  • Diploma in Travel and Tourism or related Flight Operations diploma
  • At least 2 years’ experience in the aviation sector,
  • Computer literate
  • At least one year’s experience in Flight Operations or similar
