PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Payroll and Compliance Accountant is responsible for managing payroll processing, ensuring full compliance with tax and statutory requirements, and supporting financial controls through accurate reporting, reconciliations, and regulatory engagement.
This position is based in Rwanda, Kigali.
Detailed Responsibilities
1. Payroll:
- Prepare and process payroll accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform month-end payroll reconciliations, including payroll and tax-related accounts, and process related journals.
- Prepare, declare, and remit payroll-related taxes and statutory contributions.
- Liaise with the RSSB on tax matters and other related request.
2. Compliance Function:
- Prepare, declare and remit other taxes (VAT, WHT, Import duties, etc)
- Perform month-end reconciliations on tax-related accounts, and process related journals.
- Liaise with the Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) on tax matters, including follow-ups on WHT certificates and other requests.
- Engage with any other government regulatory institutions and clearing agents for import taxes, etc.
- Processing Sales EBM’s and follow up on supplier EBMs.
- Assess any tax effects on transactions and on the business in general
- Be up to date with Tax Laws, compliance, etc.
- Perform any other reasonable duties requested by your supervisor(s).
3. Other Compliance:
- Preparation of impacts reports and others reports within your duties as requested by your supervisors on ad-hoc basis
- Fixed Assets Reconciliations and maintenance of fixed asset register
- Assisting your supervisors on any reports relating your usual duties (Payrolls, taxes and compliance functions)
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Qualification:
- Bachelor degree in accounting or finance
- CPA qualification (advantage)
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in payroll, tax, or compliance accounting.
- Computer literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office.
Skills:
- Strong team player with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- High attention to detail while maintaining a broad understanding of business objectives.
- Well-organized, methodical, accurate, and analytical.
- Results-driven with strong deadline management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluent in English and Kinyarwanda.
- Strong time management and multitasking abilities.
- Resilient, adaptable, and able to perform well under pressure.
- Willingness to take initiative and manage change effectively.
- Interest in nature and conservation is an added advantage.
